Reading the result
Everything is per acre, and the density tier you choose applies to both tabs.
Hire a pro starts from a low, typical or high per-acre price for that density using a mulcher or cut-flush method, then lets you add what changes the job: stump grinding, grubbing out roots, rough grading, debris haul-away, removal of large trees over 12 inches, and the mobilization fee. Tick grubbing and grading if you’re building on the land; leave them off for pasture, trails or a view.
Do it yourself is rental days scaled to the density, plus delivery, fuel, consumables, disposal and a permit, plus your time — a medium acre is 20–40 hours for a first-timer, most of it hard. Try it two ways: with the skid steer ticked as something you’re renting, and with it unticked. The first is machine clearing; the second is hand clearing, and the gap between them is the whole story of this service. The full comparison explains why.

Why does the DIY total come out higher than the pro price?
Because the default includes a rented skid steer with a brush-cutter attachment for the number of days a first-timer needs, plus delivery, fuel, disposal and a permit. That's the honest cost of machine clearing without experience. Untick the skid steer to model hand-tool clearing of light brush, which is the version of DIY that genuinely saves money.
How do I know which density tier my land is?
Walk it. If nothing is thicker than your wrist and you could cut it all with a chainsaw and clearing saw, it's light. If there are trees you'd want a machine to push over but nothing much over a foot across, it's medium. If it's a proper woodlot with mature trees, it's heavy. Most parcels are a mix; price the dominant type.
What do the quote levels mean for land clearing?
Low is flat, dry, accessible land near the contractor's yard, cleared by mulching with nothing hauled. Typical is the national median for the density. High is steep or wet ground, no road access, rock, a long mobilization, or a parcel that needs a dozer rather than a mulcher. Mobilization is also an add-on you can tick separately.
